The goal of our Zone Defense Project is to provide mentorship to the mentors. Anyone that signs up to mentor a high school basketball player would then also be paired up with a mentor themselves who can help them navigate their host country and potentially provide advice and guidance about life after college. Although some college basketball players may end up playing professionally, many enter the workforce and look for jobs either in their host country or back home. The goal of the Zone Defense project is to have the broader community look after each other. We welcome mentors that are interested in being sounding boards for mentees and providing career advice. We also welcome those that would simply like to welcome college level basketball players from the region and be a host family that can provide advice and guidance about the host country, and perhaps invite them into their homes for the occasional meal! In addition, each year we will provide scholarships to the top 3 college basketball players from the region in the United States to help with incidental costs (room, board and books). Scholarship awards are based on both academic and athletic merit. The size of the scholarship awards will be determined each year based on donations received the prior year. For 2022, the scholarship awards will be $1000 each. To be considered for a scholarship, you must sign up to be mentored and you will then receive more information over e-mail.
