Our mission is to use the power of basketball to help impoverished and war-torn areas of former Yugoslavia in order to strengthen communities, foster economic opportunity, and provide the youth in the region a more positive outlook on the future. The former Yugoslavia today comprises 6 countries: Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia.

Of these states, only Slovenia and Croatia are members of the European Union and as a result are economically more developed.

The remaining states, although located in Europe, are economically disadvantaged and still recovering from the consequences of past wars. Many parts of these countries are extremely undeveloped and lack basic infrastructure that we take for
granted in the United States and the wider developed world.

HOMELAND HOOPS

Through Homeland Hoops, we hope that children are able to use the sport of basketball as an outlet, both for their daily struggles as well as a tool for hope for a better future. In addition to soccer, basketball is the national sport of the region.

After all, about 10 current NBA basketball players come from the Balkans and our hope is to have them join our team and help the children of their homelands
maximize their potential.
